Since 1941, The people of Ripponden have enjoyed our bowling green

A Little History

The Start

The Ripponden Park bowling club opened in 1941 on part of the Mill Fold Recreation Ground which was controlled by Ripponden Urban District Council.

In 1973 Ripponden Urban District Council was abolished and Ripponden Parish Council came into existence. The whole Mill Fold site then came under direct control of the newly formed Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council.

Our Growth

Council provided a park keeper who was responsible for looking after the bowling green.

As the years passed the Club had to take on more responsibility for the site. Since 1990 the Club has purchased floodlights, extended and maintained the pavilion and looked after the bowling green.

The club members work in liaison with the council officers in keeping the facilities in good condition

Today

Today the bowling green is one of the best in Calderdale. Over the past 20 years the membership of the club has continued to grow with this year being our largest membership to date.

In the 2023 season we enrolled 19 teams being a mix of male, female and mixed. The club is run by a President, Secretary, Treasurer and up to 10 Committee members. It operates under Constitution and Rules which have been passed by the Membership.
